Abstract: The reciprocal relationship between bovine and human tuberculosis was the object of great polemic that remained unresolved until the beginning of the 20th Century when it became clear that the illness in animals was zoonotic. However, this form of transmission, responsible for 10% of human tuberculosis, was practically disregarded by borth the medical world and State health authorities. This paper intends to retrieve the work of the Catalan veterinary Josep Vidal Munné, one of the bacteriologists who has most been concerned with the transmission of bovine tuberculosis to humans. Even though he dealt with all aspects of the disease, this paper emphasises his contribution to the sanitary aspects of the problem seen from the viewpoint of human health.
