En el seu últim període creatiu, Goethe es va interessar molt vivament per les cultures orientals. Fruit d'aquests afanys són les poesies aplegades al Divan occidental-oriental. En la segona part d'aquest llibre, les «Notes i assaigs per a la millor comprensió del Divan occidental- oriental», Goethe s'ocupa, entre altres temes, de la traducció. Hi fa un repàs de les diferents maneres d'enfocar una traducció i comenta les versions traduïdes de diverses obres, tant orientals com d'altres pertanyents a la tradició europea i germànica. Goethe va expressar en diversos escrits els seus punts de vista respecte a la traducció i en algunes ocasions ell mateix va fer incursions en aquest ofici. |

In his last period, Goethe dealt intensively with the oriental cultures. The result of this interest are the poems collected in the Western-eastern Divan. In the second part of this book, the «Notes and Essays for a better Understanding of the Western-eastern Divan», Goethe deals, among other subjects, with the problems of translating. He goes thought the various ways of tackling a translation and comments on the translated versions of a series of works, both oriental and works belonging to the european and germanic tradition. Goethe expresses in several writtings his points of view on traslation and occassionally he made himself forays in this craft. |
