| Abstract: |
El wellerismo es un tipo de paremia peculiar por su estructura triádica, como por ejemplo: ««contra gustos», dijo el sapo y se tragó la mosca». En contra del espíritu didáctico y moralizador que caracteriza a las paremias en general, el wellerismo es subversivo y normalmente humorístico. Este artículo presenta una breve historia, estructura y función de los wellerismos, que ayudarán a una mayor comprensión de esta paremia. Con ejemplos sacados de una de las obras más características: los Pickwick Papersde Dickens, se analizarán las diversas traducciones realizadas al castellano y catalán y finalmente se apuntará una estrategia para su traducción. |

The proverbial locution called wellerism generally consists of a triadic structure: a speech or statement (often a proverb), identification of the speaker, and identification of the situation, which gives the expression an ironic or humorous twist, often in the form of a pun, such as ««We'll have to rehearse that», said the undertaker as the coffin fell out of the car». This article analyses the peculiar structure and function of the wellerism, and thorough examples taken from the most representative novel The Pickwick Papersand its many translations into Spanish and Catalan, concludes with a descriptive analysis of the possible translation strategies for its successful translation. |
