| Abstract: |
Jane Austen's Persuasion, in line with the author's other major works, revolves around the theme of money and marriage within Georgian society. The novel exhibits different types of marriages; some are more conventional, and others go beyond the social norms of the time. The aim of this project is to describe a selection of matrimonies found in Jane Austen's Persuasion, to discover how the narrator expresses the ideological preferences of the novel, and the positive or negative outcomes for the characters. In the first chapter, I am going to analyse the Elliot and the Musgrove family, to make constant comparisons between their lifestyle, their ideals regarding marriage and money, and their family values. The Elliots, different from the Musgroves, are selfish, ambitious, and elitist. Because of the narrator's disagreement as to their ideals, they will not have a happy ending. In the second chapter, I am going to study in more detail the marriage of the Crofts, the Harvilles' and Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth, as well as the naval characters. All of them have in common great values, social attitudes, and ideologies ahead of their time. The narrator expresses the same ideology as these couples by giving them the ability of choosing good friends, enabling them to overcome together the adversities they encounter and, finally, giving them a happy ending. |

L'objectiu d'aquest treball és descriure una selecció de matrimonis trets de Persuasió de Jane Austen, per tal de descobrir com el narrador expressa les preferències ideològiques de la novel·la, i les conseqüències positives o negatives que això comporta per als personatges. Al primer capítol, analitzo a la família Elliot i la Musgrove, per tal de fer constantment comparacions sobre els seus estils de vida, els seus ideals tenint en compte el matrimoni i els diners, i els seus valors familiars. Al segon capítol, estudio a fons els matrimonis dels Crofts, els Harvilles, i Anne Elliot i el Capità Wentworth, així com els personatges navals. Tots ells tenen en comú bons valors, actituds socials i ideologies avançades per a la seva època. |

El objetivo de este trabajo es describir una selección de matrimonios pertenecientes a Persuasión de Jane Austen, para así descubrir cómo el narrador expresa las preferencias ideológicas de la novela, así como las consecuencias positivas o negativas que esto conlleva para los personajes. En el primer capítulo, analizo la familia Elliot y la Musgrove, para hacer constantes comparaciones entre su estilo de vida, sus ideales en cuanto al matrimonio y al dinero, y sus valores familiares. En el segundo capítulo, estudio a fondo los matrimonios de los Crofts, los Harvilles, y Anne Elliot y el Capitán Wentworth, así como los personajes navales. Todos ellos tienen en común buenos valores, actitudes sociales e ideologías adelantadas a su época. |
