Localising AD scripts from Spanish into Chinese : guidelines for good practices

Resum:	With the development of information and communication technologies, new social inequalities have emerged for information access barriers (Greco, 2018). Media accessibility services, such as audio description (AD), are an essential means of social inclusion (Fryer, 2016). Starting unofficially in 2005, AD is still at an initial stage in China, and highly dependent on volunteers. Given that one problem is the shortage of AD scriptwriters (Tor-Carroggio, 2020), we propose to research a new way of creating AD in China: translating existing AD scripts from Spanish into Chinese, which may help to save elaboration time and increase the quantity and diversity of AD products. This presentation aims to give some guidelines for good practices for localising AD scripts from Spanish into Chinese. The guidelines are a result of a multimodal corpus analysis of eight AD scripts both in Spanish and Chinese using Atlas. ti. A series of differences have been detected, with subjectivity and information load being the most outstanding ones. However, the existence of many similarities, like information prioritisation principles, also suggests that AD translation may be a viable way to boost this service in China.
