Abstract:	Preliminary results of the analysis of a representative sample of the sarcophagi in the Paleo-Christian Necropolis of Tarragona are presented here from the point of view of their state of preservation and also evaluating the patinas that affect their marble surfaces. It is verified the validity of these examinations to draw information about the contexts in which these pieces have been preserved throughout their history. Furthermore, it is observed the importance of these results to interpret the conservation environments of other stone works.
