Resum: Katniss Everdeen, protagonist of Suzanne Collins' popular young adult trilogy The Hunger Games (2008-10), might not immediately appear to be a Final Girl of the type Carol Clover described in her influential article "Her Body, Himself: Gender in the Slasher Film" (1987). I believe, however, that Katniss is certainly a Final Girl, though it is not my aim to prove here that her characterization perfectly matches Clover's portrayal. Staiger's analysis of a large corpus of slasher films, intended to question the completeness of Clover's formula, shows that this is not a fruitful approach. I argue, rather, that even when the Final Girl blueprint only fits partially, as is the case with Katniss, we may gain new insights into specific female characters, their power and agency, which may allow us to revitalize current dominating appraisals.
