Tiempo y eternidad : una reflexión a partir de la Enéada III de Plotino
Rodriguez, Mariano L.

Additional title: Time and Eternity: a reflexion from Plotinus's Ennead III
Date: 1992
Abstract: The treatise III-7 of the Enneads develops in the context of the Platonic Timaeus. For Plotinus, eternity is a reality closer to us than the time. Eternity is not just a concept, but a value; it makes the eternal vulnerable. Eternity belongs to the Nous, not to the One. The venerability of this eternal Nous constitutes him a subject, no simply an object. Plotinus doesn't avoid the idea of "present", relating to the eternity of the Nous. This category relates Nous with life: he is an eternal life. Plotinus examines the three main theories about time: a} time as movement; b) time as a certain quality of movement; c) the Aristotelic correlation of time and movement. The locus of the time is in the Plotinian system the World Soul. Temporality means a real degradation. The Soul looks toward the future, longing for it in the time. Sensibility, memory and discursive reasoning are the forms of knowledge proper to the temporality. The paper concludes with comprehensive references to Nietzsche's Götzen-Dämmerung, to Wittgenstein, to Friederich and to a picture of Dali.
