Abstract:	En este artículo se defiende la tesis que las intenciones del hablante no son relevantes a la hora de interpretar sus enunciados. Para defender dicha tesis se esgrimen razones de carácter ético, más concretamente, de carácter ético-lingüístico, a través de un análisis histórico de las reflexiones de los filósofos en torno a las promesas. Se hace pues un repaso a las consideraciones de Cicerón, Hobbes, Hume, Kant y Searle en torno a la promesa. A partir del análisis de los argumentos ofrecidos por dichos filósofos juntamente con ciertas consideraciones wittgenstenianas, se concluye la verdad de la tesis.
Abstract:	In this article the author defends the thesis that the communicative intentions of the speaker are not relevant in order to decide the content of his utterances. In order to develop this point, the author gives linguistic -or better linguistic and ethical- evidence, through an historical research of some philosopher's point of view on promises. There is a critical review of Cicero, Hobbes, Hume, Kant and Searle's arguments on promises. Finally, it is claimed that the truth of the thesis follows from the critical analysis of the arguments of those philosophers and certain wittgensteinian assumptions.
